My tier 3 EUB in Virginia are soon to expire. Is there a 4th tier to come? I was wrongfully fired from a local trucking company and got a good work reference while working for a construction company.
I still owe creditors money, without another extension, my choices would be to file for bankruptcy which I do not want to do. My next choice is not much of a choice in my favor, to drive an over the road tractor-trailer again because the job market is still pretty weak. There are OTR jobs available and not much in terms of local jobs.
Since I owe creditors money I would prefer construction versus all that tractor-trailer driving. I can't afford to lose an expensive hobby at a self-storage place because I worked hard to earn my keep. This winter, I would hate to see myself on I-80 going west thru a snowstorm and something to happen to me. I would prefer heavy equipment operation at a school nearby, but it closed up.
I think those of us unemployed for so long should have some form of more unemployment benefits. I think that our president is lousy, and we need another leader to get the country going again. If we elect the current president again, I think that our country will be too far in the hole.

I have been drawing since May of 2009 it is about to run out in Dec and there are no jobs out there where a person can make it on their own. "What is wrong here"… I work for a good company (A.I.W. here in Kansas) and was bought out by Southwire. From what I understand they were one of the companies that the government helped out and what do they do??? They buy up all the little companies and lay off everyone… So tell what good does that do for the working man?
I would love to have my job back like it was made good money now an just get along the best i can and in Dec i will no longer have that i am in hopes that the government will see its way to help us all though this.

I worked for the University of Kentucky for 25 years. After learning all of the skills necessary to work with an IBM mainframe and various peripherals, data center monitoring systems and troubleshooting batch job streams, I was laid off because the Computing Center switched to a distributed server center.
My last day of work was 8/28/10. I have had only one job interview since then. I'll be 60 years old this month and need to work at least 10 more years. Being 60 years old and having been unemployed for over a year, I face a double whammy in trying to get a job. Unless Congress passes extended unemployment benefits, I will start the New Year homeless.
- 60 and Unemployed in Kentucky
I have been unemployed for 2 years now. My last permanent job was in 2007 which only lasted for about 9 months because of layoffs. I have been working for temporary agencies ever since and of course they never work out neither.
My qualifications are very good, but i believe that is who you know that get you that job you want. Why companies do that I do not know and it is very frustrating when you have about 1000 people applying for the same position. I have even looked into working at a grocery store, Wal-Mart, Kohls, etc, but you have to have experience in cashier or ever stocking. It does not take a rocket scientist to do those jobs and if they would just take a few days to train a person then i believe that there would be more jobs there for us people that may not have 1 year experience in a field.
I have decided to go back to school and start another career, which i will be completing very soon, but that also cost me as well which schooling is not cheap there are not enough funding as well. They say go to school and start a career, but where is the funding that people need to accomplish that. I can't even get a student loan for living expenses so that i can finish school or find a job as well.
What do people have to do to get somewhere in life. I really don't know, but i will never give up on my career or my accomplishment that I know that I can exceed in life only if I have the chance to do that.
- Unemployed and Starting a New Career in Massachusetts
I have been unemployed for almost two years. It is very hard to get a job today. Most companies claim they don't have a problem with age but they really do. There are websites on line they can go to and check out your information and your age comes up. Once they know how old you are you are never contacted. I think it is a shame to judge someone on age instead of knowledge.
Most people in my age bracket are applying for social security because they can't get jobs this is why. We would rather work but can't even get in front door. We really need some new laws that protect older candidates from getting jobs.
Thank you for listening.

Are we in a depression?
My boyfriend and I collect cans to eat. We also dig food out of the trash to eat. All the jobs want you to submit a resume on-line and then 3 weeks later they email you and tell you the position is filled. You can't even get in the door to sale yourself. Without the Unemployment tier v extension we will soon be homeless. We are doing all we know to survive.

My job will be shutting down as of Sept. 30th. I do not even know the 1st thing about filing for unemployment. I am sure no one expects after a long career the job would just end. What a rather awkward feeling.
I did not want too share much. I do not know enough of the debate to pass judgment on any employment reforms, but I can definitely keep this site posted on any experiences during my unemployment period.
- Soon to be unemployed in North Carolina
Here’s the thing... No one on capital hill deserves re-election!!! The truth is they don't go to bed at night worrying about bills, or how they will feed their families. They're worrying about where to take their families for vacation or what car to but next. My husband has been out of work for almost 4 years and it’s not because he isn't looking for work it’s because he can't find work. I have never seen or heard of a poor politician in my life. So walk a mile in our shoes and you'll be singing a different tune in no time.
We have been forced out of our home, been on food stamps lost our car and it's not going to get any better anytime soon. I have absolutely no faith in our government. It’s a joke and so are the people running it! It’s not fun struggling everyday but you wouldn't know anything about that would you Mr. Politician!
If you are 9% of the population, you’re looking for a job. If you even get an interview you can figure you won’t get the job. There is discrimination going on here. No one in our government wants to address it. They now the truth of what’s going on and they choose to lie to the people. Or they have the ability to help people but because they are trying to get votes for reelection they want to play games with millions of people’s survival. Sorry you guys but this American isn’t buying it. You have allowed letting people loose homes and children to go hungry. Not to mention meds for some people who might have mental issues.
What has happened has happened. How do you think a person feels when they have lost everything and in some cases their lives? Our stories are all the same but all the right people are not paying attention. I have been unemployed for much too long. My benefits ran out July 10 2010. I have not found a job yet. The government has made grave mistakes by doing what they are doing. I hope they fix what needs to be fixed and leave the American people out of it. We did not ask too loose jobs. It was just done too us.
But we take the blame for being lazy, on drugs and whatever else we have been labeled as. We the American people did not create this mess. We are being handed it. The greatest country in the world and they let their citizens go homeless and hungry. They even allow it to happen to our service men and woman. That in itself is tragic and extremely disrespectful.
This government needs to start sharing some of the welfare they are collecting from the taxpayer. They should be ashamed of themselves but they are not at all. So I ask "What difference does it make?" It is happening. The government does not care or will not care. None of them have my vote!
- RI Unemployed Resident
Let me start by saying I am a student in College to become a teacher. I have been unemployed for about a year. I do work a temp job during the summer but that money only goes so far. Most of the money from my temp job goes to tuition, food etc. I don’t have it as bad as others who have more responsibilities than I do but it blows reading those stupid emails where they tell you they are not interested.
It’s really hard finding a job that fits my school schedule; on top of that I no longer have a cell phone. I hope the job situation is fixed soon…
